Saturday Devotion: Hail Beloved Gods

I have a morning prayer practice that I have come to rely on to get my head straight and help remind me of what my priorities are—loving and serving my gods in joy and gratitude, and expressing passionate faith. The watchwords of Temple Mercury.

This prayer is based on the “Hail Mary” which is a wonderful general form for expressing devotion. It is also simple and easily memorized, thus accessible to be repeated quickly in times of distress. It can be adapted easily to any pantheon. As my flavor of Paganism is eclectic yet weighted toward Hellenic, I say, “Hail Theoi.” Here, I have used, “Hail Beloved Gods” as a general term that you can substitute with anything you feel fits your divine relationship best.

Every time I say, “Blessed are you among all gods,” I get a shiver. We should all feel that way about our gods. Love. Swoon. Happy soul shiver. I hope this prayer helps get you there.

Hail Beloved Gods

Hail Beloved Gods
Full of Truth and Beauty
Glorious Gods, compassionate Guides
Blessed are you among all gods
Blessed your wisdom, works, and ways
Holy Gods, Lords of Life
May we love each other always I pray
Help me stay close to you now
And in the hour of my need
Blessed be

  1. Thank you so much for offering this prayer.

I will try it out today. Do you add incense, candles or charms too or just the prayer?

    1. Every morning, I light a blue prayer candle (white would also be fine—you can usually find them by the ton at dollar stores or sometimes even in the grocery store). I light frankincense and myrrh incense as that’s a great flavor for general working. That’s my daily offering to the gods, along with this and other prayers.
